Levon Helm Grammy Won Best Traditional Folk Americana, 4/20/2012 – Levon Helm, 71, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer Thursday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. His web site had these few words… “Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon. He was surrounded by family, friends and band mates and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul.”
Levon, of Woodstock, New York, was known for his artistic work as drummer for The Band which performed with folk artist Bob Dylan. Helm was continually active in the arts including his contributions to Americana music. He was more than an artist — he was sincerely dedicated to the music he loved and he was active in its promotion, expansion and direction.
