Philippines Typhoon Pedring
Philippines Typhoon Pedring, Typhoon Pedring (international name Nesat) has affected more than 195,000 people in 8 regions nationwide, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Wednesday.
The DSWD expects the number of affected families to increase as it is still validating reports from the provinces.
In Metro Manila alone, 30,413 persons from 65 barangays in 11 cities, and the municipality of Pateros were directly affected by the typhoon, according to DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman.
Nearly all of the affected families are now housed in 88 temporary shelters, Soliman said in a press statement.
She said the DSWD has given some P1.5 million worth of relief aid to local government units affected by the typhoon.
A total of 190 evacuation centers have been set up nationwide to shelter victims.
In Region 2, around 16,841 people from 21 barangays and 7 municipalities in Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya have been affected by the typhoon.
In Region 3, some 27,959 people from 60 barangays and 15 towns in Aurora, Nueva Ecija , Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Bataan have been affected.
In Region 4-A, some 10,205 people from Rizal, Quezon and Cavite were affected.
In Region 4-B, 9,980 persons from Occidental Mindoro and Romblon were displaced.
In Region 5, some 88, 525 people from Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes were affected.
