Swift Accepts Date With Sick Teen
Swift Accepts Date With Sick Teen, A Stratford teenager who’s fighting leukemia won a personal victory Friday, when pop star Taylor Swift accepted his request for a date.
Kevin McGuire, 18, drew national attention with an online campaign to have Swift accompany him to the senior prom at Sterling Regional High School. The effort paid off shortly after 3 p.m., when the singer responded on her Facebook page.
“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom,” the singer wrote. “But I was wondering, the (Academy of Country Music) Awards are coming up…Would you be my date? Love, Taylor.”
McGuire, who’s battling cancer for the second time, didn’t need to check his calendar to give an answer.
“Obviously I said yes,” said McGuire, who’s currently being treated at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The country-music event, being held in Las Vegas on April 1 “is a lot better than the senior prom.”
